- 1987年，更名西安翻譯培訓學院
- 2000年，升格為西安翻譯職業學院（專科）
- 2001年，江蘇省洪澤縣職教中心併入，改建為西安翻譯職業學院附中——江蘇洪澤外國語中學。
- 2003年，批准建立西安翻譯學院附屬職業中等專業學校。
- 2005年，升格為本科院校，更名西安翻譯學院

2004年《洛杉磯時報》曾刊登文章，稱「美國50州高等教育聯盟」將西安翻譯學院排名為中國 丁祖詒（1939年8月29日—2012年3月12日），中華人民共和國民辦教育家、西安翻譯學院院長及創辦者。 丁祖詒任工程師。1987年創辦西安翻譯學院。 [color=var(--color-emphasized,#101418)][size=1.5em]與方某爭論[編輯]
2004年，指責丁祖詒發布假消息，聲稱丁祖詒被「美國50高等教育聯盟」評為「中國最受尊敬大學校長」，並被轉載到中國國內許多新聞媒體。稍候，方舟子向洛杉磯時報證實該文章存在，但是一則付費廣告。由於有很多人詢問此事，洛杉磯時報的工作人員Janette Dean正式回覆說： 你送來的圖像看來是我們報紙在2004年10月4日第B-6頁的掃描或拍攝圖像。（圖像上面用紅字標記的「2004年11月10日」看來是在後來拍攝或掃描時加進去的。） 這個關於某個聯盟做了一次調查提名中國頂級大學的加框文字，的確是一個付費廣告，而不是由《時報》記者或其他任何記者根據調查而得的事實所寫的文章。 The image you sent appears to be a scanned or photographed image of our authentic newspaper page B-6 dated October 4, 2004.
